South Beach, Ayr

South Beach, Ayr is one of the most popular visitor beaches in Scotland. Stretching over 3.5km South from the River Ayr, South Beach's golden sands are known to attract thousands of visitors on a sunny day - from families to sports groups.

On 16th July, Glasgow Fair Monday, Keep Scotland Beautiful launched My Beach, Your Beach campaign on South Ayr beach with a campaign team and representatives from South Ayrshire Council.

This launch marked the start of #MyBeachYourBeach pilot interventions being rolled across three popoular Scottish beaches - South Beach, Fisherrow Sands and Portobello - as part of a bathing water improvement plan for these locations. This work complements a range of improvement works being undertaken by Scottish Water and Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) in the area.

Bathing water quality at South Beach is affected by a number of sources, detailed in SEPA's bathing water profile for South Beach. Live signage boards displayed at the beach display up to date water quality advice and you can also view live bathing water information via the SEPA bathing water app.
