Nominate a hero
During lockdown we know there has been active individuals in communities across Scotland helping us clean up litter. We want to recognise these individuals to celebrate their hard work whilst also inspiring others to do something about the problem.
December 2019 - Arbroath FC
The club have been working with local volunteer group, Angus Clean Environments (ACE) to change behaviours and tackle the culture of litter at the stadium and reduce the amount of litter left behind after matches. This includes bin placement and having their own Litter Heroes at matches.

September 2019 - Marion Montgomery
Stonehaven school teacher Marion Montgomery has received our ‘Hero of the Month’ award in recognition of her online campaign to get people and their pooches involved in cleaning up their local area.
June 2019 - Neil Paterson
Neil Paterson, from the local group “Renfrew White Cart River Bank Nature Spot” has scooped national recognition for his work in coordinating litter picks and clean ups. Find out more about their work on their Facebook page.
November 2019 - Bank Street and Area Residents and Traders Association (BARTA)
In November, we presented Bank Street and Area Residents and Traders Association (BARTA) with the award to recognise the work undertaken by the group to remove litter from local streets and gardens in Hillhead, Glasgow.
August 2019 - Melanie Roccio
Melanie, who lives at Fisherrow, launched the Don’t Mess with Mussy Facebook page in January 2019 with the hope that it would inspire even more local people to take action against litter.

May 2019 - Peter MacBride
Peter, aged 76, has been leading a team of six people who have cleaned over 18km of coastline around Tighnabruaich over five months. Over this period, Peter has helped to organised enough help to remove more than two tonnes of plastic waste from the local environment. Find out more here.
February 2019 - Laura Doherty
Laura has worked with McDonald for over 10 years now and supports with local Clean Up events. She has worked successfully with local schools and communities to help Clean Up the local neighbourhoods. We are delighted to celebrate her hard work and enthusiasm. Read more here.
October 2019 - Sally Clough
Sally Clough from Inverclyde has been presented with the award for her with Belville Community Garden, one of our Upstream Battle Anchor Groups. Sally has taken an active role organising Clean Ups and gathering data along their watercourse.
July 2019 - Spring Clean Heroes
The winners shone in our Clean Up Scotland events which saw a record total of 45,000 people taking part.

April 2019 - Victoria Primary pupil
The pupil attends Victoria Primary School in Newhaven, received the award for his continued commitment to picking up litter with Victoria After School Club, especially on the local beaches due to his concern for the affects that plastic has on sea life.
January 2019 - Duncan Cameron
January's award has be awarded to Duncan Cameron who has spent the last four years collecting and counting the single use cups he litter picks from the roadside in Perth. So far he's collected over 1,000 - Well done Duncan!
