We'd like to update you on this year's Canal College programme during the current situation with Coronavirus (COVID 19).
The health of our volunteers, groups and staff are our priority right now. With this in mind, we have postponed all Canal College activity until further notice.
Please keep in touch, and follow us on Facebook and/or Twitter for further updates.
On Canal College you can learn practical and traditional heritage skills outdoors on Scotland’s canals – like stone-masonry, lime-mortaring, archaeology and vegetation management.
Take part to build confidence, make friends and experience team-working. You’ll also get the chance to work towards CV boosting qualifications in Cultural Heritage and Working Safely and awards like the John Muir Award and Heritage Hero award.
If you’re aged 16 or over, Canal College can help you get on the path to work or further education. It’s just two days a week for 14 weeks, but it could change your life.
“I was part of a young team that was constantly getting in trouble. My social worker suggested I try Canal College but it was not easy to socialise with new people after being involved with a crew for so long. Getting away from drugs and crime and putting myself out of my comfort zone was hard. But no one judges you here, they take you at face value and everyone gets treated the same. It has really helped give me focus and helped me move away from my old life.”
