Forres in Bloom
Forres in Bloom (FIB) celebrated 25 years in 2015. During this time Forres won many awards in Beautiful Scotland, Britain in Bloom and Entente Florale Europe. Two years ago The Moray Council closed the nursery in Elgin and ceased provision to local communities. FIB was fortunate to have the use of a neglected nursery site in Forres. The last two years have been spent seeking funding, support and volunteers to turn this in to a working nursery to maintain displays in spring and summer - a formidable task. Now self-sufficient, the group decided to re-enter Beautiful Scotland in the 50th anniversary year in 2016.
In 2017, Forres in Bloom was one of eight Beautiful Scotland groups representing Scotland in the RHS Britain in Bloom finals. The group was awarded a Gold and was joint winner of the 'Town' category. The group also picked up the following discretionary awards: Overcoming Adversity Award for taking on a run-down nursery and growing 30,000 bedding plants themselves after the local council stopped supplying them in 2013, and two Community Champion Awards - presented to Sandra and Ian Maclennan.
