Dunbar in Bloom
Dunbar In Bloom works hard to promote Dunbar and all it has to offer. The ‘In Bloom’ group is supported by youth groups, local business, the local council, and groups promoting sustainable living, recycling and food growing. The local community has worked together over the past years to brighten up the streets of Dunbar and support groups of volunteers with various projects, promoting the health benefits of being active outdoors. Residents groups have gone from strength to strength and there is a feeling of community within the town.
In 2017, East Lothian Council won the 'Wright Sustainability Award' for its sustainable planting:
There are exceptional examples of bold, creative and colourful perennial, sustainable planting around East Lothian. A good example of this can be seen in Lauderdale Park in Dunbar, which includes beautiful, prairie style planting. This sustainable approach is planted with low maintenance in mind, planting densely to avoid weeding and choosing plants which don’t require staking, as well as many varieties which are appealing to pollinators. The relationship between East Lothian Council staff and the ‘In Bloom’ groups is very positive, with a strong approach of mutual support.
