Brighter Bothwell

Brighter Bothwell - Ditch the Dirt
Entrant Category: Small Town

Brighter Bothwell's motto is "Let's just do it". If the group sees local areas needing attention, the team of volunteers sets about carrying out improvements. This includes litter picking, bulb planting, wildflower sowing and practical campaigning to reduce dog fouling. The members encourage community participation, environmental responsibility, biodiversity and eco-friendliness.

In 2017, Brighter Bothwell was one of eight Beautiful Scotland groups representing Scotland in the RHS Britain in Bloom finals. The group was awarded a Silver Gilt in the 'Small Town' category and also the following two discretionary awards: Involving Children and Young People Award for engaging local schools and youth groups in learning about nature, growing and the environment, and The Gardening in a Changing Climate Award - introduced this year, for the group's sustainable gardening practices at Bothwell Community Garden.
