Beach Award Criteria
With over 1.5 million trips to the coast annually, Scotland's Beach Award is a great way of highlighting a beach as a quality destination. Scotland has some beautiful beaches which are well used by local communities and visitors. Award flags have been flying at the best beaches around Scotland for over 25 years.
Local authorities, land managers or community groups can all consider applying for a Beach Award. For a beach to be successful in gaining an Beach Award, it has to meet a number of criteria under the following pillars:
- Information provision
- Beach safety
- Beach management
- Access and facilities
After a new application has been received, a desk assessment takes place then the beach will be visited by a trained assessor, beach managers then receive a report on all award beaches. All awards are reviewed annually, and beaches inspected during the bathing season.
We host two meetings a year for award beach managers (in May and November) to provide an opportunity for networking, sharing examples of good practice and discussing any emerging issues.
We will open for 2018 applications in January next year, but if you are interested in finding out more please contact us at email@example.com
