It's Your Neighbourhood Assessor

Salary: Voluntary (expenses only)

Based in: Scotland

Further information: It's Your Neighbourhood

We currently have a number of exciting opportunities for Volunteer Assessors who provide a vital link between us and the communities that we support, encourage and reward through our annual It’s Your Neighbourhood initiative.

It’s Your Neighbourhood is part of the Royal Horticultural Society’s Britain in Bloom campaign which Keep Scotland Beautiful delivers in Scotland. It’s Your Neighbourhood  aims to encourage, support and celebrate the achievements of groups cleaning up and greening up their local area, whether that is the street where they live, a derelict space on their estate, grounds around the local community centre or their whole community. With support and training from us, Volunteer Assessors are responsible for visiting and encouraging participating groups and providing guidance and advice under the three pillars of  Community Participation, Environmental Responsibility and Gardening Achievement.

Applications are sought from volunteers who want to support our aim to make Scotland clean and green, today and tomorrow. Ideally, our volunteers will have previous experience of working with community groups, knowledge of reducing impacts on the environment, an interest and experience in gardening (this can just be your garden at home) and be able to communicate effectively to support and encourage participants.

The role is very rewarding and you’ll get to visit inspiring projects (and even pinch an idea or two for your own projects!) and meet other like-minded people from across Scotland.

In 2020, volunteers are asked to commit to attend a day of training in Stirling (Wednesday 25 March) and to undertake between four and eight (or more if they wish) assessment visits between May and September. There is also the opportunity to attend the annual Beautiful Scotland and It’s Your Neighbourhood seminar at the end of October and a volunteer thank you lunch in January; both events in Stirling.

Closing date for completed applications: continuous recruitment

Informal Interviews: following application

Training:  Wednesday 25 March 2020
