We currently have a number of exciting opportunities for Volunteer Assessors who provide a vital link between us and the communities we support, encourage and recognise through our annual It’s Your Neighbourhood initiative.

It’s Your Neighbourhood is part of the Royal Horticultural Society’s Britain in Bloom campaign which Keep Scotland Beautiful delivers in Scotland. It’s Your Neighbourhood aims to encourage, support and celebrate the achievements of groups cleaning up and greening up their local area, whether that is the street where they live, a derelict space on their estate, grounds around the local community centre or their whole community. With support and training from us, Volunteer Assessors are responsible for visiting and encouraging participating groups and providing guidance and advice under the three pillars of Community Participation, Environmental Responsibility and Gardening Achievement. In 2023 we supported 208 community groups across Scotland to take part in It’s Your Neighbourhood.

Applications are sought from volunteers who want to support our aim to make Scotland clean and green, today and tomorrow. Ideally, our volunteers will have previous experience of working with community groups, knowledge of reducing impacts on the environment, an interest and experience in gardening (this can just be your garden at home) and be able to communicate effectively to support and encourage participants.

The role is very rewarding and you’ll get to visit inspiring projects, share ideas and meet other like-minded people. Find out why one of our volunteers takes part here.

Each year, volunteers are asked to commit to attend a training session (March/April - format and date TBC) and to undertake between four and eight (or more if they wish) 1 hour assessment visits between May and October. There is also the opportunity to attend various online Q&A sessions and the annual online Beautiful Scotland and It’s Your Neighbourhood seminar in December (date TBC).

For further information about It’s Your Neighbourhood, visit www.keepscotlandbeautiful.org/iyn. You can find out about our current volunteer assessors here.

Closing date for completed applications: continuous recruitment

Informal Interviews: by phone / online meeting following receipt of application

Training:  Late March/April - date and location TBC
