Climate Emergency Training for Scouts - Cohort 1
Climate Emergency Training for Scouts Scotland Volunteers & Staff
We are excited to offer free Climate Emergency Training to give Scotland’s youth workers an understanding of the climate emergency and to equip them with the skills and tools to help young people turn their concerns about climate change into positive action.
Although the focus for the training is for volunteers & staff, it is also open to Explorer Scout (Young Leaders).
The climate emergency training is being delivered by Keep Scotland Beautiful and is funded by the Scottish Government.
Course participants will have the opportunity to:
Learn about climate science, the impacts of climate change and responses at a local, national and international level
Investigate the impact of their own behaviour and how to make changes that will help to tackle climate change
Discuss how they can best communicate and inspire young people to respond to climate change
The course has three modules delivered over three evenings (one per week). Each module consists of a 90-minute webinar and one hours’ worth of homework, that participants can do in their own time at their own pace.
In addition to the course, a toolkit will be made available for participants to use in a wide range of settings to engage, inform and mobilise young people to play their part in responding to the climate emergency.
Participants who successfully complete the three modules can apply to gain official Carbon Literate accreditation through the Carbon Literacy Project.
The course will be delivered across three different sets of dates to give as many people the chance to sign up:
Course One - Thursday 25th November, Thursday 2nd December and Thursday 9th December (all 7pm – 8:30pm)
Course Two - Tuesday 18th January, Tuesday 25th January and Tuesday 1st February (all 7pm – 8:30pm)
