FREE Climate Emergency Training: East Dunbartonshire, Online: 17 & 24 June

FREE online Climate Emergency Training on 17 and 24 June.

As this training is accredited by the Carbon Literacy Project it provides an opportunity to be certified as Carbon Literate.

The training will be delivered by the environmental charity Keep Scotland Beautiful and has been designed in partnership with East Dunbartonshire Council and East Dunbartonshire Voluntary Action. It is fully funded by the UK Government with £42,175 being provided through the Shared Prosperity Fund.


Who is this training for?

New FREE training dates are available throughout 2024 so people can learn what the Climate Emergency means for them and find out how they can take positive action.

Anyone with ties to East Dunbartonshire is welcome to attend*. People representing local organisations, communities and businesses are particularly encouraged to get involved.

Keep Scotland Beautiful is available to deliver bespoke group sessions - please contact climate@keepscotlandbeautiful.org for further details.

*Advertised sessions are for attendees aged 18 and above. For attendees under the age of 18, please contact Keep Scotland Beautiful (climate@keepscotlandbeautiful.org) - a bespoke session can be arranged.


Why should I take this training?

  • Understand how your community and homelife will be impacted by climate change - in terms of physical impacts and new regulations and expectations, as Scotland moves to a low carbon future.
  • It’s relevant to East Dunbartonshire through local case studies and examples sourced by East Dunbartonshire Council, East Dunbartonshire Voluntary Action and Keep Scotland Beautiful.
  • Understand the science of climate change.
  • Understand the meaning of terms like 'Climate Emergency', ‘global warming’, ‘climate change’ ‘net zero’ and ‘carbon footprint’.
  • Get Carbon Literate - identify greenhouse gas emissions of your activities, and practical actions you can take to reduce them.
  • Future-proof your community and homelife as far as possible
  • Learn about co-benefits of climate action, such as improved resilience to extreme weather, reduced costs and improved environmental quality.


How will the training take place?

  • Two 2.5 hour online sessions via Zoom 17 & 24 June (both 14:00 - 16:30).
  • Online self-study and Carbon Literacy Assessment.


Is the same training being offered on other dates, or in-person?

What type of certification will I get for the Accredited Training?

  • The course is accredited to meet the Carbon Literacy Standard by the Carbon Literacy Project, and participants that successfully complete the course receive a certificate confirming that they are Carbon Literate.
  • Participants who successfully complete the course will also be eligible to attend further sessions, so they can deliver the training in their community.
