Carbon Literacy

Scotland has set a target of net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2045. To achieve this target, businesses and organisations across all sectors will need to play a significant part in the transition to a low carbon Scotland.

Reducing emissions relies on every single person in an organisation being aware of the carbon impacts of their choices, and feeling motivated and supported to take action.

To help organisations, businesses and individuals to start their journey into the low-carbon world, Keep Scotland Beautiful offers bespoke Carbon Literacy training.

Carbon Literacy is an awareness of the carbon costs and impacts of everyday activities and the ability and motivation to reduce emissions on an individual, community and organisational basis.

Our one-day training course equips learners to:

  • Understand the basics of climate change science and how we know it’s a problem
  • Explore how climate change is impacting us all now and how it will in the future
  • Know what's being done to tackle climate change at a variety of levels; locally, nationally and internationally
  • Identify ways that you and your organisation can take action to reduce emissions, benefiting from this in the process

Accredited by The Carbon Literacy Project, Keep Scotland Beautiful is the only Carbon Literacy Training Organisation in Scotland. Since 2016, we have been pioneering this important programme with businesses, organisations and communities, demonstrating our commitment and competence to support the development of Carbon Literacy initiatives for a range of audiences. Each course we deliver is tailored specifically for our audience’s needs and following successful completion of the course requirements, learners will be eligible for a certificate of Carbon Literacy.
