Support for educators and pupils working on our Climate Action Schools programmes. 

We offer a range of professional learning opportunities to support educators in all sectors. 

Interactive online sessions to support educators to deliver our environmental education programmes in any context, plus new sessions directed at pupils to support their experience. Below you will find a description of each session. Please register using the form below.

These sessions are intended for a class or Eco-Committee to attend while accompanied by an educator.  All sessions start at 1:30pm 

Becoming an Eco-School

Part 1: Eco-Committee & Environmental Review
An introduction to your Eco-Schools work and the different things you will cover, with special attention on how to carry out your Environmental Review.

Part 2: Action Planning
How to put together your Action Plan, including what to Measure and Monitor to make sure your work is on the right track.

Part 3: Involving your Community
How to make the most of community links and share your work with a wider audience

Meet & Greet
Learn about Eco-Schools work and experience directly from Eco-Committees and pupils, with a chance to ask questions and meet a variety of schools and Eco groups.

Young Reporters for the Environment 

These sessions are intended for a class or YRE Committee to attend while accompanied by an educator. All sessions start at 1:30pm 

Advocating for the Environment: 6 October 2023
We'll be joined by Ullapool Shark Ambassador Finlay Pringle and hear how his advice on how to campaign effectively on environmental issues.  

Good Storytelling: 15 November 2023
We'll be joined by award-winning writer, journalist, public-speaker, and author Ross Brannigan who will share advice on writing about environmental issues.

Reaching Out to the Media: 5 December 2023
KSB Communications Manager Suzanne Roberts will share tips on how to communicate with newspapers, radio and television to share your messages, including how to write a press release, how to submit an article and how to give a good interview. 

Conducting a Good Interview: 11 January 2024
How to interview someone for a video or report. Includes: how to ask effective questions, how to structure an interview to get the information you require, and how to stay safe. 

YRE Mentor Session TBC: 6 February 2024
We'll hear another of our YRE Mentors share skills on reporting on environmental issues.

Training For Educators

Climate Action Schools

All twilights starting at 4pm
Introduction to Climate Action Schools
One Planet Picnic, Young Reporters for the Environment, Climate Ready Classrooms, Eco-Schools… Did you know that all of these programmes (and more!) are under our Climate Action Schools banner? Come and join us in this informative session where we will walk you through all the different programmes, lessons and activities you can take part of, and how they support your pupils attaining learning for sustainability, developing their voice and critical thinking, and developing STEM skills and more.

Sustainable Transport with Sustrans Scotland
A teacher training session to accompany our Mini Lesson on COP28 and sustainable transport. Topics covered include: barriers to active travel, greenhouse gases, climate change, and how small choices make a difference.

An introduction to the Learning About Forests programme, for educators who will be leading this programme in their school. LEAF advocates outdoor learning and hands-on experiences, for pupils to gain a deeper understanding of the natural world. (What is LEAF?)

Young Reporters for the Environment

Welcome to Young Reporters
An introduction to our Young Reporters for the Environment programme for educators looking to lead it in their establishments.  Give committed pupils the opportunity to have their voice heard on environmental issues that matter to them. Write a report, take a photograph or make a video reporting on the environment. (What is Young Reporters?)

Preparing Your One Planet Picnic
One Planet Picnic can be part of your transition work or an end of term celebration. It is a great way to use and celebrate your harvests at the start of the new academic year. (What is One Planet Picnic?)

Winter is an opportunity to share soup and a story. We'll share recipes and stories that celebrate growing and harvest.
