Ultimately, to stop the litter emergency we need to tackle it at source and prevent it in the first place, otherwise the litter will keep coming. This means looking at the roots of the problem, including our consumption lifestyle, what leads to the littering behaviours and escape of waste, and matching interventions to stop it.

Littering is not a simple problem to solve and it requires partnership work across many stakeholders, alongside engagement with all communities.
