St Machar Biodiversity Community Group

The aims are to increase the biodiversity of the graveyard and enhance the area for all visitors. The group reviews their grass maintenance plan with Aberdeen City Council annually and has some areas of the graveyard cut regularly and some areas only cut once a year, reducing herbicide use and planting native flowers for pollinators.
In 2023 they are hoping to plant single-flowering bulbs 'in the green', sow a woodland wildflower mix, provide signage and install a water butt and bird boxes. Gardening sessions meet monthly during the growing season - see website for details.
In 2022, the group were recognised with the NatureScot It's Your Neighbourhood Pollinator Friendly Award - 2nd place - and received £150 towards pollinator friendly activities.
