Recovery Garden Project

Certificate of Distinction
The Recovery Garden Project is a volunteer led, gardening group who meet weekly all year round. It is part of the work of a local Aberdeen Alcohol & Drugs Charity who work with people at all stages of recovery from substance misuse. They are mainly based at a polytunnel at the Grove Nursery at Hazlehead, as part of an Aberdeen City Council community engagement project. Each year the group, made up of volunteers and clients, decide what they want to grow and then plant, care for and harvest what has been grown. This gives the participants an opportunity to maintain and take away the produce they have grown. It encourages responsibility and commitment as well as healthy eating. Being part of the group reduces isolation and helps with the broader reduction of stigma among the community.
