Gairloch Sitooterie - Wildlife Observation Garden
Just six years ago, the local community decided to fundraise to tackle a hopelessly overgrown wasteland area in the village. And what a transformation has taken place since then. Dense litter-strewn gorse towering up to two metres high has been cleared, revealing the outstanding panoramic views from the roadside.
The Sitooterie is considered to be an "impossible" garden, with no shelter whatsoever and the sea frequently lashing its very edge. But the Sitooterie was never originally intended to be a garden, just a "Sit-oot" area for locals and visitors to enjoy.
The community's outstanding efforts have transformed it now into a delightful, colourful, stunning all year-round garden.
