COP26 Scottish Youth Climate Programme

Helping young people tackle climate change

With extreme weather events in the news almost daily and the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) happening in Scotland in November 2021, it has never been more important to provide opportunities for our young people to talk and learn about climate change.

We are working in partnership with Young Scot and YouthLink Scotland on the COP26 Scottish Youth Climate Programme. The programme will ensure that young people can play a key role in Scotland’s response to the climate emergency, and that youth workers and those who work with young people are equipped to support them to do so.

The programme will increase awareness of climate change and support young people to take climate action.

The Scottish Government is funding the programme and it is being co-designed by young people from across Scotland. Activities will include networking and training events, a Youth Work Champions Group and a COP26 Local Champions Programme.

As part of the programme, we are providing accredited Climate Emergency Training to young people, youth workers and people who work with young people.

Climate Emergency Training for young people

As part of the COP26 Youth Climate Programme, we have also developed a programme of climate emergency training for young people which will be offered to the 11-25 year-olds who have been accepted as COP26 Local Champions.

A co-design group made up of young people from across Scotland has played an active part in ensuring this training is relevant and suitable for their peer group. We will work with our programme partners Young Scot and YouthLink Scotland to make this online training course available to the local champions throughout the country.
