Certificate of Recognition

Alloa in Bloom is in its fifth year, and over the last two years achieved Gold. The group is small but pulls on the resources of other groups and works closely with the business community who support their work through the Alloa First BID.

The theme this year is linked to the UCI Cycling Championships which is to be based across the central region, Glasgow and the Borders. The flowers will be bright to represent the three-cycling race 'Tours' - Tour de France - yellow jersey (worn by the winner on every day); Italian Giro - pink jersey; and Spanish Vuelta - red jersey - along with a silver/polka dot jersey which represents the King of the Mountains.

In 2021, Alloa in Bloom won the David Welch Memorial Award for Something Special - for the partnership between Alloa First BID and Gartinny Nursery, an outreach facility run by Scottish Autism, for supply of quality plants for town centre displays. A key attribute to the group is how they have organised their supply of plant material. Instead of relying on their local authority, they have established a working partnership with a plant nursery, which is an outreach facility run by Scottish Autism. The town centre is a riot of colour, with numerous hanging containers, half barrels and planters, and the plants are grown to a standard as good as, if not better, than any leading Scottish ornamental plant producer.
