Climate Ready Classrooms provides pupils in secondary schools with workshops, tools and resources that support learning about climate change within Curriculum for Excellence. Accredited by The Carbon Literacy Project, Climate Ready Classrooms offers relevant and engaging activities that focus on solutions and action. Upon completing the course, pupils receive a certificate of Carbon Literacy accreditation.
We have delivered this bespoke accredited course to thousands of secondary school pupils and educators since 2020.
This course aims to support young people to:
- Have an improved understanding of climate change science
- Explore issues of climate justice and build global citizenship skills
- Identify opportunities to reduce carbon emissions, plan how to do this and act
- Speak confidently as climate change ambassadors
- Actively participate in Scotland’s transition to a low carbon society
There are four units:
- Unit 1: Climate Conversations
- Unit 2: Exploring Climate Change
- Unit 3: Taking Climate Action
- Unit 4: Emissions & Vulnerability
The course can be delivered either as a one day face to face workshop or remotely online as a series of workshops.
Two keen groups of pupils from George Heriot's School in Edinburgh took part in the Climate Ready Classrooms course online during one lunch break per week and achieved Carbon Literacy certification. Feedback from pupils was extremely positive. Read the blog entry written by Geography Teacher Rachel Hay.
“As a group we found the climate ready classrooms course very enlightening about the current climate crisis that we as a younger generation are facing and will continue to battle. The course was packed with eye opening facts about greenhouse gases and their negative impact on our planet, however it also gave us many hopeful strategies. Together we can hopefully contribute towards helping towards these as well as educate those around us about them.” Kirsten, Eleri & Eva
