FREE Climate Emergency Training for people in East Dunbartonshire

New training dates are available throughout 2024 so people can learn what the Climate Emergency means for them and find out how they can take positive action. Anyone with ties to East Dunbartonshire is welcome to attend. People representing local organisations, communities and businesses particularly encouraged to get involved and Keep Scotland Beautiful is available to deliver bespoke group sessions.
The training is delivered by environmental charity Keep Scotland Beautiful and has been designed in partnership with East Dunbartonshire Council and East Dunbartonshire Voluntary Action. It is fully funded by £42,175 from the UK Government through the Shared Prosperity Fund.
As this training is accredited by the Carbon Literacy Project, participants will have the opportunity to be certified as Carbon Literate.
Who is this training for?
- Individuals across East Dunbartonshire (or with ties to the area).
- Staff from businesses and organisations across East Dunbartonshire (or with ties to the area).
Why should I take this training?
- Understand how your community, business and homelife will be impacted by climate change - in terms of physical impacts and new regulations and expectations, as Scotland moves to a low carbon future.
- It’s relevant to East Dunbartonshire through local case studies and examples sourced by East Dunbartonshire Council, East Dunbartonshire Voluntary Action and Keep Scotland Beautiful.
- Understand the science of climate change.
- Understand the meaning of terms like 'Climate Emergency', ‘global warming’, ‘climate change’ ‘net zero’ and ‘carbon footprint’.
- Get Carbon Literate - identify greenhouse gas emissions of your activities, and practical actions you can take to reduce them.
- Future-proof your community and homelife as far as possible
- Learn about co-benefits of climate action, such as improved resilience to extreme weather, reduced costs and improved environmental quality.
- The training also presents the opportunity to set businesses on the route to be accredited as a Carbon Literate Organisation - a great way to showcase corporate social responsibility and bring co-benefits of Carbon Literacy to your organisation.
How will the training take place?
There are eight opportunities to attend the training in 2024, with two in-person sessions and six online options to choose from.
In-person sessions:
- Kirkintilloch Town Hall: 23 May (09:30-16:00)
- Westerton Town Hall, Bearsden: 11 September (09:30-16:00)
Online sessions:
- 17 & 24 June (both 14:00-16:30)
- 18 & 25 July (both 10:00-12:30)
- 22 & 29 August (both 14:00-16:30)
- 2 & 9 October (both 18:00-20:30)
- 8 & 15 November (both 10:00-12:30)
- 30 November & 7 December (both 10:00-12:30)
In addition, Keep Scotland Beautiful is available to deliver bespoke group sessions on request.
Spaces at all sessions must be booked in advance via Eventbrite.
What type of certification will I get for the Accredited Training?
- The course is accredited to meet the Carbon Literacy Standard by the Carbon Literacy Project, and participants that successfully complete the course receive a certificate confirming that they are Carbon Literate.
- Participants who successfully complete the course will also be eligible to attend further sessions, so they can deliver the training in their community.
