FREE Climate Emergency webinars and accredited courses: for people across East Dunbartonshire

FREE 'Climate Emergency in less than 60 minutes' webinars, featuring a Q&A session

These webinars will be available in January and February 2025, so people can learn what the Climate Emergency means for them and find out how they can take positive action. 

The webinars will take place via Zoom and feature a presentation by Keep Scotland Beautiful, plus a Q&A session. 

Anyone with ties to East Dunbartonshire (aged 18 or above*) is welcome to attend. People representing local organisations, communities and businesses are particularly encouraged to get involved  

Accredited online Climate Emergency Training courses

The webinars will be complimented by two fully accredited online Climate Emergency Training courses, which provide the opportunity to be certified as Carbon Literate.

The courses will take place via Zoom in January and February 2025 and are available to book via Eventbrite here.

Anyone with ties to East Dunbartonshire (aged 18 or above*) is welcome to attend. People representing local organisations, communities and businesses are particularly encouraged to get involved  

More about the training 

The training is delivered by environmental charity Keep Scotland Beautiful and has been designed in partnership with East Dunbartonshire Council and East Dunbartonshire Voluntary Action. It is fully funded by £42,175 from the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

Who are the webinars and training for?

  • People across East Dunbartonshire, or with ties to the area (aged 18 or above*)
  • People representing local organisations, communities and businesses, or with ties to the area, (aged 18 or above*) are particularly encouraged to get involved.

The webinars are under one hour in length, so provide an ideal introduction, whereas the accredited course is eight hours of learning, so provides more in-depth information, as well as the opportunity to be certified as Carbon Literate.

Why should I attend a webinar, or accredited course?

  • Understand how your community, business and homelife will be impacted by climate change - in terms of physical impacts and new regulations and expectations, as Scotland moves to a low carbon future.
  • They are relevant to East Dunbartonshire through local case studies and examples sourced by East Dunbartonshire Council, East Dunbartonshire Voluntary Action and Keep Scotland Beautiful.
  • Understand the science of climate change.
  • Understand the meaning of terms like 'Climate Emergency', ‘global warming’, ‘climate change’ ‘net zero’ and ‘carbon footprint’.
  • Future-proof your community and homelife as far as possible
  • Learn about co-benefits of climate action, such as improved resilience to extreme weather, reduced costs and improved environmental quality.
  • Ask questions 

The accredited courses will also provide the opportunity to:

  • Take part in interactive discussions with other participants 
  • Access practical self-study activities via our online learning platform
  • Get Carbon Literate - identify greenhouse gas emissions of your activities, and practical actions you can take to reduce them.
  • Set your business, or organisation on the route to be accredited as a Carbon Literate Organisation - a great way to showcase corporate social responsibility and bring co-benefits of Carbon Literacy to your organisation.

 

When and how will the webinars and accredited courses take place?

There are six opportunities to attend a webinar or accredited course in 2025, with four webinars and two Accredited courses to choose from.

In addition, Keep Scotland Beautiful is available to deliver bespoke group sessions on request.

 

Will I obtain certification for attending a webinar or the accredited courses?

  • The webinars carry no certification. 
  • The accredited course meets the Carbon Literacy Standard by the Carbon Literacy Project, and participants that successfully complete the course receive a certificate confirming that they are Carbon Literate.

 

Do I have to attend a webinar before attending an accredited course?

  • You are welcome to attend the accredited course with, or without attending a webinar.
