Businesses and Climate Action
Businesses have a key role to play in helping Scotland and the world reduce emissions and take action on climate change. Businesses not only impact on Scotland’s emissions because of operations and activities taking place here, but also have a role to play on global emissions through their supply chains, waste streams, marketing and communication practices.
In Scotland, businesses can:
-Integrate sustainability and climate change considerations into all areas of work, especially planning, energy, business travel, waste, risk analysis and procurement. The Energy Saving Trust Scotland website has advice for how businesses can reduce carbon emissions through getting to grips with transport, sustainable energy supply chain and employee engagement. Resource Efficient Scotland also offers support to businesses with free advice and support designed to help you save money and reduce energy, water and waste
-Work with Keep Scotland Beautiful to be part of the solution. We audit many businesses and make recommendations for sustainable practices through our National Environmental Excellence Award.
-Work with Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) and other regulatory bodies to identify actions beyond the legal requirements and take proactive measures to reduce environmental impact.
Businesses in Scotland can effect global emissions by:
-Engaging with their supply chain about their carbon footprints and environmental impacts through energy consumption, raw material use and waste.
