New to YRE?

Welcome to Young Reporters for the Environment!

Here is a quick overview of everything you need to know to participate...

Video: Introducing YRE

In this video, we'll walk you through YRE competition, the steps required to submit your entry, and the resources available to help you.

Start by Investigating a local issue.

Any environmental issue fits YRE but the focus is generally on three themes: Climate Action, Biodiversity Loss and Pollution.

Conduct original Research such as surveys, questionnaires or interviews to obtain first-hand information.

Take a positive approach to inspiring change and finding a solution.

Report on the issue and possible solution through an article, photo or video.  No expensive equipment needed. Filming on a mobile phone or tablet is fine.

Share your work in at least three places through local press, social media, television, radio, your school or group newsletter, an exhibition or at local events.

You’ll also make links to one of the Sustainable Development Goals to link your issue to the bigger global picture.

When you are ready to submit your entry, please email it to us at youngreporters@keepscotlandbeautiful.org along with your completed Entry Form.

Your Entry Form gives us permission to publish your entry, and share it with the Foundation for Environmental Education.

Results of the Scottish Competition are usually announced the second week of May.

International competition results are usually announced the first week in June.

Deadline for Entries is 29th April 2024

(Entries submitted after this date will be held for the 2025 competition.)
