Tom has extensive experience in tourism, sustainability and regeneration. He studied Zoology at Aberdeen and Glasgow Universities and was a Countryside Ranger before working for British Waterways for 15 years, promoting, managing and developing canals throughout the UK for leisure, tourism and regeneration. He was Chief Executive of the award-winning Scottish Seabird Centre for 20 years and was Chair of the Tourism Environment Forum.

Tom lives in East Lothian and is a Sir Winston Churchill Traveling Fellow, a graduate of Common Purpose and a Director of the Forth Estuary Forum. He was awarded an OBE for services to tourism in 2006.
