Alan joined us in 2019 as Project Manager of our canal college® programmes in Falkirk and West Dunbartonshire. To date, this unique project has offered around 150 unemployed, and often disadvantaged, disengaged and disabled people the opportunity to learn and develop new skills, gain real work experience and earn qualifications, all out of doors.
Alan’s duties include managing two Youth Outreach Workers, programme planning and development, logistics, health and safety and delivering workshops.
Early career was spent in science and engineering - education and applied optics research, nuclear medicine and superconductivity research. Alan held a number of roles in manufacturing, research, product support, health & safety and regulatory affairs.
Alan subsequently embarked on a new journey as a self-employed Quality Management Consultant specialising in ISO9000 for small medical companies but also freelance training and project management.
For the past 15 years Alan has combined his love of natural, built and cultural heritage to design, develop and manage a wide range of employability, health & wellbeing and volunteering projects along Scotland’s canals and woodlands.
Still an engineer at heart, Alan enjoys building, fixing and creating all kinds of stuff! Currently wrestling with stained glass, stone carving and gardening projects at home.
