Bruce Robertson was Director of Education, Culture and Sport in Highland Council from 1998-2007 and Director of Education Learning and Leisure in Aberdeenshire from 2007-2010. Prior to entering Local Authority leadership roles, he spent 17 years working in various schools in North East Scotland. Between 2010 - 2016 Bruce worked in an advisory capacity with The Scottish Government, the Association of Directors of Education in Scotland ( ADES ), and other national agencies. He recently spent a period as interim Chief Executive at Bòrd na Gaidhlig.

Bruce has extensive experience in education and children's services and has been closely associated with many of the key national policy developments for a number of years now.

He recently chaired the national group which prepared the Statutory Guidance on Gaelic Education and previously the national group which prepared Statutory Guidance on Early Learning and Childcare.

He is former chairman of the Scottish Advisory Committee for the Duke of Edinburgh's Award and chairs a small charity, GAMSCOT, which supports education and skills development in The Gambia. He is a Trustee and Board member of Keep Scotland Beautiful, and has recently been appointed as an independent member of the University of the Highlands and Islands F.E. Regional Board.

Bruce is a past President of ADES, a Fellow of the SQA, and was awarded an OBE in 2006 for services to Education.
