Keep Scotland Beautiful provides a varied schedule of training courses covering issues that are at the forefront of local authority, land managers and other agencies’ environmental needs.

The training ranges from detailed aspects of environmental legislation to the practical implementation of legislation relating to local environmental quality.

About Our Training Courses
Our trainers are experienced and keep abreast of the latest research and good practice, ensuring that the training is relevant and practical. The training can be utilised to ensure delegates are up to date with legislative requirements regarding litter, waste and related issues, or to train additional members of their team on specific issues.

Regularly scheduled courses are held in Stirling and are usually for one full day, detail can be found on our events calendar , however, we are also able to offer bespoke courses, tailored to your organisation’s needs, at a time and location that suits your needs. Examples of training days available include:
Litter Control
Duration: 1 day
Content: Provides in depth knowledge of litter legislation. Covers the offence of littering, use of fixed penalty notices, litter control areas, street litter control notices and litter abatement.
Flytipping & Waste Enforcement
Duration: 1 day
Content: Outlines the relevant legislation; what constitutes waste; case studies and best practice; and practical solutions currently being used to tackle the flytipping issue.
Commercial Waste & Duty of Care
Duration: 1 day
Content: Provides an understanding of the legislation and the Code of Practice; identifies the options available to take effective enforcement action for commercial waste issues; points out what each waste holder is required to do in law; and how to encourage duty of care compliance.
Conflict Management
Duration: 1 day
Content: Provides an understanding of what is violent behaviour and looks at strategies to manage it; the consequences of stress and how to avoid it; and assertive behaviour.
Use of Fixed Penalty Notices
Duration: 1 day
Content: Background to Fixed Penalty Notice legislation and how it gives powers to local authorities; the requirements of the Procurator Fiscal Service with regard to cases taken forward for prosecution.
Evidence and Notebooks
Duration: 1 day
Content: Covers the rules of evidence, obtaining statements, official notebooks, photographs and productions, reporting offenders to the Fiscal and presenting evidence in court.
Abandoned and Nuisance Vehicles
Duration: 1/2 day
Content: Provides an understanding of the problems associated with such vehicles and the impacts they have on environmental quality; relevant legislation; preventative measures and effective methods of dealing with abandoned and nuisance vehicles; case studies and best practice.
Code of Practice on Litter & Refuse Awareness
Duration: 2 hours
Content: Provides an awareness of the Code of Practice on Litter and Refuse, including cleanliness grades, zones and response times. This course is suitable for street cleansing operatives and front line staff.
