Reducing Environmental Impact
Keen to reduce the company’s environmental impact, Angela sought advice from Keep Scotland Beautiful about improving sustainability and reducing the environmental impact from energy, transport, waste and water, including carbon emissions.
Keep Scotland Beautiful, which works alongside many businesses, worked closely with Angela to understand her particular issues and develop a package of practical and achievable support to help implement effective measures. As well as one-to-one meetings and regular email briefings, Angela also regularly attends Keep Scotland Beautiful’s monthly “Business Breakfasts” with maintenance manager Ken Wilkie who is quick to act on new information and advice as it arises, which keeps their business ahead of the game.
Examples of practical steps Angela and her staff have taken since working with Keep Scotland Beautiful include: setting up carbon-cutting plans for staff; calculating the company’s carbon footprint; encouraging car-sharing and public transport use; procuring stationary from local suppliers; purchasing reflective panels for radiators; holding regular “green” seminars at lunchtimes; conducting a solar power feasibility study; installing automatic light timers and many more.
