The aim of the Eco-Schools programme is to make environmental awareness and action an intrinsic part of the life and ethos of the school for both pupils and for staff, and to engage the wider school community in the Programme, in support for and aligned with the purposes of Curriculum for Excellence (CfE) and Learning for Sustainability (LfS) within CfE.
The Eco-Schools International Green Flag Award is designed to encourage pupil-led, whole school action for the environment. It is a recognised award scheme that accredits schools who make a commitment to continuously improve their environmental performance. It is also a learning resource that raises awareness of environmental and sustainable development issues throughout activities linked to curricular areas.
Internationally, the Eco-Schools programme connects 15 million pupils and teachers in the biggest learning network in the world, concentrating their efforts by taking action on issues of the environment and sustainability that are important to them.
