Giffnock Recycling Bike & Food Waste Reduction, run by Big Green Feet CIC

Giffnock Recycling Bike & Food Waste Reduction was a project run by local Community Interest Company Big Green Feet in partnership with Giffnock Business Improvement District. The project collected food waste from local shops, restaurants and cafes by cargo bike instead of lorry and transported it to a new anaerobic digester where it was converted into compost. The project also raised community awareness of food waste through Giffnock Business Improvement District events and a marketing programme developed with local shops and restaurants.

Reducing Carbon in the UWS Community, run by Students Association of the University of the West of Scotland

Project Dates: 1 April 2015 - 31 March 2016

Reducing Carbon in the UWS Community was a project run by Students Association of the University of the West of Scotland to work with staff, students and the wider community to reduce carbon emissions. The project worked to offer Green Impact Education to enable students to take practical actions to reduce carbon emissions relevant to their area of study and fuel efficient driver training for University Estates staff. The university intranet hosted a furniture reuse scheme. Workshops at the existing community gardens offered the skills for the community to grow produce at home, reduce food waste and home compost. A Sustainability Hub was created at the Paisley campus to host a permanent Swap Shop and act as base for a number of workshops with themes including energy advice, active travel, cycle maintenance, reuse and upcycling.
