Sustainable Scotland Network (SSN) is the network of sustainable development officers and advocates from Scotland's 32 local authorities. Core funded by the Scottish Government, SSN supports information sharing, training and communication within and between local authorities, towards the aim of mainstreaming sustainable development. SSN hosts Quarterly Meetings for members, organises a high-profile, national Annual Conference, publishes a monthly Newsletter and has its own Website.
SSN's four national Programme Priorities are:
Best Value
Supporting local authorities to deliver the Duty of Sustainable Development within the Best Value regime, principally through the Best Value & Sustainable Development Toolkit.
Climate Change
Supporting local authorities to deliver on the commitments made through Scotland's Climate Change Declaration and informing implementation of the Climate Change (Scotland) Act within local government.
Local Footprints
Working in partnership with WWF Scotland, the Local Footprints Project provides a support programme for local authorities on ecological and carbon footprinting.
Procurement for Sustainability
Supporting local authorities to procure responsibly and in a way that delivers community well being, minimises resource use and prevents environmental degradation. In 2008, SSN worked with key national organisations to establish the Sustainable Procurement Working Group.
