Great prizes available for Young Reporters

The closing date for the 2016/17 Young Reporters Scotland competition on 28 February is fast approaching. Take part now to get 500 Young Scot Points and the chance to win a variety of prizes.

Young Reporters Scotland is a programme which encourages anyone aged 11-21 to have their say on the environmental issues which matter to them. Young people are encouraged to engage with issues affecting their communities, and are given a platform to share their opinions and ideas. They can raise awareness of problems or celebrate successes through their chosen media, such as a blog, article, photograph or video.

Participants in Scotland join a network of passionate young people making a difference in over 30 countries around the world through the international campaign Young Reporters for the Environment.

Katie Murray, Community Projects Coordinator at Keep Scotland Beautiful said, “This year we have some exciting prizes on offer, including experience days and a Go-Pro camera, to reward the efforts of young people taking action and making their voices heard”.

Taking part is a great opportunity to gain useful experience for a personal statement or CV. Iona McCormick, last year’s winner in the 15-18 age group said, "I have really enjoyed taking part in the Young Reporters Scotland competition as I have gained so many new skills.”
