Annual Survey of Car Clubs in Scotland 2016-17

Published 22 March, the Carplus Annual Survey of Car Clubs in Scotland 2016-17 shows that over 11,000 people in Scotland are sharing 332 cars, and that their behaviour is having a positive impact on air quality, emissions and congestion.

The Survey was carried out by Carplus Bikeplus, an independent environmental transport charity, that has been collating data on car club membership for 10 years.

The Survey estimated that Scottish car club members saved over 1,600 tonnes of CO2 from tailpipe emissions over 2016-17.

The car club fleet in Scotland is now over 20% electric, including hydrogen powered electric vehicles, with less than 6% of cars diesel-fuelled. The Survey also found that Scottish car club members were driving 513 miles fewer than the national average.

The full Survey, as well as a summary document, can be accessed at the Carplus Bikeplus website.
