Scotland has some beautiful beaches which are well used by local communities and visitors. Award flags have been flying at beaches around Scotland for 25 years, recognising some of Scotland’s best managed beaches.
For a beach to be successful in gaining an Beach Award, it has to meet a number of criteria under the following pillars:
- Information provision
- Beach safety
- Beach management
- Access and facilities
After an application has been received, the beach will be visited by a trained assessor, who will then issue a report to the beach manager. All awards are reviewed annually. Local authorities, land managers or community groups are all eligible to apply for a Beach Award.
We host two meetings a year for award beach managers (in May and November) to provide an opportunity for networking and to share examples of good practice.
We will open for 2018 applications in January next year, but if you are interested in finding out more please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org
