Laura Butcher is Head of Communications at the Law Society of Scotland, the professional body and regulator of Scottish solicitors. Her team has a wide remit including media relations, digital communications, brand management and public affairs. Laura has 15 years’ experience of working in communications in not-for-profit organisations.
Following a BA (Hons) degree in English Language and Public Relations, Laura started her career working in Sydney during the Olympic Games in 2000 before returning to the UK to work in the busy press office of Blackpool Pleasure Beach amusement park. Following this stint in the tourism sector, Laura moved into the not-for-profit sector with communications roles at environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy where she worked on campaigns encouraging the public to change their littering behaviour. A move to Edinburgh saw Laura take up a communications manager role at professional body and regulator Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) before moving to the Law Society of Scotland.
Laura is a member of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations(CIPR) and a trained CIPR mentor which sees her mentoring young communications professionals.
She lives in Edinburgh with her husband and young family.
